Earl Schamehorn, Sr.

January 8, 1934 – January 31, 2024

Earl Schamehorn, Sr., a dedicated servant of the Free Methodist Church, passed away of natural causes on January 31, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Detroit, Earl’s journey of faith and leadership within the church began in earnest following his studies at Asbury Theological Seminary. He first served in Sherwood, Michigan, and continued his ministry in Arizona and California. Notably, Earl held roles as Assistant Superintendent and later Conference Superintendent of the Southern California/Arizona Conference of the Free Methodist Church. He served in many Southern California churches, including Sylmar, Redlands, and Riverside, as well as serving as Interim Principal of the Light & Life Christian School in Azusa. Earl contributed significantly as the administrator at the Free Methodist World Headquarters when it was located in Winona Lake, and more recently as a respected member of the denominational Pension Board. Earl was a valued trustee at Azusa Pacific University, where a conference room bears his and his wife Julie’s names. He will be remembered for his humble, gracious spirit and the wisdom and insight he brought to these roles. Earl is survived by his two sons, Earl Jr. and Kevin, and granddaughters Kelcy and Kailey.
